You may not have unwrapped the new DSi Handheld this Christmas in the UK but come Spring 2009 everyone will be itching to get their hands on another sure to be success from Nintendo. Nintendo’s new version features no less than two 640×480 cameras! Here is a glimpse of what to expect from the touch-screen DSi handheld game system:

Features of the new Nintendo DSi

Two screens, size increased from 3 inches to 3.25 inches for each

DSi is 12 percent thinner than DS Lite (removal of GBA port helps in part)

Built-in cameras (one outside, one inside) with 640×480 resolution (300,000 pixels)

Web browser built-in

DSi offers new DS Shop for downloading games (users can digitally download games at prices ranging from free to 800 Nintendo Points)

DSi purchasers will get 1000 Nintendo Points free until mid-2010

DSi features SD card slot to enable media storage for music, photos, games, etc.

The new DSi handheld will be available in white and black

The new version of the Nintendo DS has MP3 functionality, game downloads, larger screen and so much more. Nintendo Co Ltd will launch the DSi in Japan in November 2008 while the rest of us will have a little longer to wait but it’s sure to be worth it!

Packed with a whole lot of enhanced features the new DSi takes pictures, plays music plus has bigger displays for optimum gaming. The device will be aiming to capture a new audience for the DS by offering easy to play games for newbies of the gaming world as well as creating new types of games to enjoy too.

When the Kyoto based company launches their new machine we will be seeing a much slimmer DS model, claiming to be 12 percent thinner than the current DS with a 17 percent bigger LCD panel.
Apart from the increase in size of the LCD screen Nintendo claims to have improved the sound quality in their DSi model.

It also has the edge over older models by now incorporating a built-in internet browser and a 0.3Mp camera. Another new addition where expandable memory is integral is the “DSi Shop,” similar to the Wii Shop Channel, where users will be able to purchase downloadable content on a points system.

The DSi also features a built-in SD card slot, letting you save photos to an SD card, which can then be transferred to Nintendo’s Wii Photo Channel via a Nintendo Wii.
Although much slimmer than its predecessors the DSi has the same compact appearance as the DS Lite.

The DSi Handheld will not be available on British shelves until after Christmas so those looking to buy a Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite instead should find some good deals on Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite.

Demand may weaken for the existing DS now that the DSi has been announced which can only mean good news for the bargain shopper keen to own a popular touch screen handheld game system.

Sales really took off when the DS Lite was released in March 2006 and buy Christmas 2007 its popularity lead to Nintendo running out of supplies in mid-December; hopefully when the new DSi Handheld is released there will plenty to go around this time.
